Vasundhara Raje’s statewide yatra was greeted with black flags and stones when it reached Jodhpur. Upset by the reception from the people of Jodhpur, the chief minister broke the yatra citing the death of Atal Behari Vajpayee. But the next phase of the yatra is in the Gujjar-dominated areas, where the community is demanding reservation on the lines given to Meenas. Further, it falls under the area where former Congress chief minister Ashok Gehlot has much influence and he is campaigning against the state government for not setting up a refinery that was promised by the chief minister. So the yatra organisers are worried as to how they will face black flags and demonstrations there.
BENGAL CPI(M) FAVOURS ALLIANCE
As the Lok Sabha elections are coming closer, the CPI(M) is worried about its prospects in West Bengal, where the party had ruled for 43 years, but has lost the grip on the state. So the party favours an alliance to fight against BJP. At the recent meeting of the state committee, party leaders considered an alliance either with the TMC or Congress, but could not reach a conclusion. The central leadership does not want any alliance in West Bengal but the state leadership knows the importance of putting up a joint fight if BJP is to be fought effectively. Congress and the CPI(M) supported each other in the panchayat election, but without declaring an alliance. But for the Lok Sabha poll, the leaders favour a proper alliance with Congress.
AKHILESH GOVT BLAMED FOR CATTLE PLIGHT
In the past there were Gaushalas in every panchayat of UP, which were looked after by the panchayat members and villagers Aged cows and bulls were sheltered and looked after by the staff of Gaushala, but now-a-days such shelters are no more, with the result that the cows and bulls are roaming the streets and destroying crops in the villages. The villagers have complained to chief minister Yogi Adityanath about the problem. Last week UP Animal Husbandry Minister SP Baghel claimed in Delhi that the problem arose due to the decision of the Samajwadi Party government to close down all Gaushalas in the panchayats. Before joining politics Baghel was in the police department and had served in the personal security of Mulayam Singh Yadav when he never showed his love for abandoned cows and bulls.
RAHUL IS STAUNCH SHIV BHAKT
At last Rahul Gandhi left for his Kailash Mansarovar Yatra last Friday. He had announced about this yatra in April in a rally in Karnataka, but it was soon mired in controversy as the BJP questioned details of his pilgrimage, including reports that he wanted the Chinese Ambassador to India to give him a ceremonial send-off. Congress has hit back saying that anyone who creates a hurdle to the holy visit commits a sin and gets a curse. The Congress spokesperson has claimed that Rahul Gandhi is a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva. (IPA)
