Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi announced the formation of a committee which will study and work the strategy of the party on ordinances. But the significance of the committee lies not in its formation, but in the names. The message it wants to send out is that the Grand Old Party will move on without addressing the concerns raised by those who wrote a letter seeking an active and visible leadership. P Chidambaram is one of the few leaders who was visited by Sonia Gandhi, Manmoahn Singh and Rahul Gandhi when he was in jail. Chidambaram has returned in full form in the party’s affairs. Chidambaram carries with him strong economic credentials and is a legal luminary as well. The dig at the CWC meeting where a group of 23 senior leaders were attacked cannot be missed here. However, Chidambaram, the lawyer, will be seen as a counter to Sibal, the lawyer, who has fought many cases for his party, the most recent being the Rajasthan crisis. The other big entrant is Digvijaya Singh. Post Madhya Pradesh crisis, many thought his career was over politically, as he along with Kamal Nath were seen as being responsible for the departure of Jyotiraditya Scindia. But it is clear that Singh is back in full form. It is a message to Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma, who are Singh’s contemporaries.
Next comes Jairam Ramesh who has been made the convenor of the committee. A leader who many thought has been left out in the cold with his Rajya Sabha tenure about to come to an end. However, his return into this committee is being seen as a snub to Anand Sharma and also the message that Sonia Gandhi continues to trust him. Then comes Dr Amar Singh, a former IAS officer and MP from Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab. Dr Amar Singh was principal secretary to Digvijaya Singh when he was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. His appointment is seen as a snub to the other high profile MP from Punjab but who is now being looked down upon for being one of the signatories — Manish Tewari. Then there is Gaurav Gogoi who many say is the rising star. His appointment is seen as a message to the other letter writers — Jitin Prasada and Shashi Tharoor. Prasada incidentally shared the same proximity to Rahul Gandhi which Gogoi now enjoys. The committee has the stamp of both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, but more significant message is that that you need to be on the right side and not write letters if you want to be in the good books of high command.
ALL POLITICAL PARTIES IN UTTAR PRADESH ARE WOOING BRAHMINS
After the encounter of gangster Vikas Dubey by the Uttar Pradesh police, the political parties are trying to use his caste. After Mayawati, now Congress is also trying to use Brahmin card for its vote politics. Congress leader Jitin Prasada has appealed to Brahmin MLAs to come forward openly if any Brahmin is penalised by the government with the slogan. “BJP mein teen he pareshan; Dalit, Brahmin aur Musalman”. Although there is no confirmed data of Brahmins vote in UP but politically it is believed that there are 12 to 15 per cent of Brahmins votes which were the vote bank of Congress previously. After Ram Mandir Andolan, Brahmins have supported the BJP and in 2007, Mayawati has given more tickets to Brahmins resulting BSP has won the election on the name of “Haathi Nahin Ganesh Hai Brahma Vishnu Mahesh Hai”. After 2007 BSP slogan was Dalit Brahmin Bhai Bhai but soon Brahmins have gone back to BJP but at present Mayawati again started to rope Brahmins in her fold after the encounter of Vikas Dubey. When AAP MP & incharge of UP Sanjay Singh went to Lucknow , he called STF as special Thakur force and criticised STF for torturing and punishing lower and other caste and praised Brahmin Dalit combination in UP. Now the Brahmins will show whether they will go with “Haathi Nahin Ganesh Hai Brahma Vishnu Mahesh Hai” (BSP), “BJP mein teen he pareshan; Dalit, Brahmin aur Musalman” (Congress) or with BJP.
PRIYANKA GANDHI VADRA READY TO TAKE ORDER FROM ANY PARTY PRESIDENT
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has said a non-Gandhi should lead the party, as sought by Rahul Gandhi after he resigned from the post. “He has said that none of us should be the president of the party and I am in full agreement with him,” Priyanka said, adding, “I think that the party should find its own path also.” About the party losing the perception battle against BJP, Priyanka said Congress was slow to understand “new media” and by the time it thought of putting out its point of view, the damage had been done The Gandhi sibling also said that she would follow the instructions of a non-Gandhi “boss” on whether she should get the organisational charge of UP or Andaman & Nicobar.
JYOTIRADITYA SCINDIA SKIPS GARLANDING THE STATUE OF HIS FATHER
Jyotiraditya Scindia, who came to BJP from Congress and became a Rajya Sabha member, stayed in Indore for two days. During this, Scindia knocked the door of many BJP leaders and he met everyone who matters in BJP and asked for their blessings. During this time, Scindia also reached the BJP office. There he garlanded the statue of his grandmother and senior BJP leader Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia but at this time he could not get the time to garland the statue of his father Madhavrao Scindia, located at the Bengali crossroads of Indore. On his arrival, his supporters have been organizing a program on the statue of his father But this time they also disappeared. Such supporters of Scindia who still have faith in Madhavrao Scindia and are in the Congress are also disappointed by this. They said that due to political ideology, he kept distance from his grandmother, now, due to his proximity to BJP, Scindia will have to keep a distance from his Congress father.
