LUCKNOW: Priyanka Gandhi has established herself as a leader who could hit street and stand with victims the manner in which she conducted herself with families of tribals in Sonbhadra district who were killed recently. There is no doubt Priyanka scored over other opposition leaders BSP national President Mayawati and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav by reaching Sonbhadra.
While Priyanka was arrested and lodged in a guest house in Chunar where power had been cut and water supply stopped, the other opposition leaders were satisfied by giving bite to news channels and issuing statement. Priyanka Gandhi succeeded in meeting the families of those tribals who were killed. BSP and Samajwadi Party were satisfied by sending delegations to Sonbhadra.
BSP got jolt when dalit leader and President of Bheem Sena Chandrashekhar Ravan managed to reach Sonbhadra on motorcycle hoodwinking the local administration.
Cut across party line the efforts and courage of Priyanka Gandhi is being appreciated and is compared to Indira Gandhi’s visit to Belching in Bihar 42 years back.
There is no doubt that it was only after the visit of Belchi, Indira Gandhi was able to revive Congress. This time again question is being raised whether the visit of Priyanka be able to help the revival of Congress at a time when party is leaderless after Rahul Gandhi.
It was only after the visit of Priyanka and nationwide coverage she got in media, CM Yogi Adityanath also visited Sonbhadra and announced more compensation to the families of victims and punishment to guilty persons. There is no doubt that Priyanka Gandhi,s visit has boosted the morale of Congress but she faces the tough task to revive the party in UP for mission 2022.
Although going by the successful agitation at Sonbhadra, majority of the Congress leaders all over the country want her as national President. But as incharge of UP at present, Priyanka Gandhi has to revive the party organisation from booth level to state headquarters.
It was only after the initiative of Priyanka Gandhi, all the district and city units of Congress in UP were dissolved.
Priyanka Gandhi has announced that she would not only extensively tour the state but would also make herself easily accessible to party leaders and workers.
There is no doubt that it it an open field for Priyanka Gandhi to tour UP and revive the party and to take on Modi and Yogi Governments on issues concerning masses. Going by the recent trends Mayawati and Akhilesh will not come out of their comfort zone.
The only leader who extensively toured UP and was easily accessible to leaders and workers and took head-on with the government was Mrs Rita Bahuguna Joshi but she was forced to join BJP when she became victim of apathy by party high command.
Bollywood actor and UPCC President Raj Babbar miserably failed to provide the leadership to party leaders and workers which was responsible for downfall of the party in the state.
Congress leaders and workers are now watching the development in party and praying for top position for Priyanka Gandhi for the revival of the organisation from booth level. (IPA Service)
