LUCKNOW: Two months after the results for Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls were announced, Samajwadi Party and BSP are engaged in bitter fight on the issue of law and order and corruption.
At a time when two national parties BJP and Congress have been marginalized, the regional parties BSP and Samajwadi Party have emerged as main players for 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Ever since Mr Akhilesh Yadav was installed as chief minister, BSP supremo Mayawati, her close lieutenant Satish Mishra and Leader of BSP in UP Assembly Swami Prasad Maurya have mounted attack on Samajwadi Party government on the issue of law and order.
Similarly Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his party are engaged in relentless attack on BSP supremo and other BSP leaders on the issue of corruption.
BSP supremo and former chief minister Mayawati charged that more then 800 murders took place during last two months’ regime of Akhilesh Yadav and incidences of rape also registered increase with 270 cases and 256 kidnapping and 245 robberies and 720 incidences of loot.
Terming the Samajwadi Party government as anti-dalit, BSP supremo Mayawati recently said that Akhilesh Yadav government was indulging in political vendetta.
Mayawati further said that in order to divert the attention of the people from failure on the law and order front, Akhilesh Yadav government ordered probe into all the work done during her regime.
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav countered the attack by claiming that there was huge scam worth Rs 40,000 crores that took place during Mayawati regime only in construction of parks and memorials. The list of such other scams in various departments was endless.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has made it clear that government would set up commission to look into various scams that took place during Mayawati regime.
While replying to allegations made by Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav hit back by saying that she should look into performances of her government first.
Political analysts feel that both parties are aware of weakness of rivals and the issues that can damage the chances in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Significantly enough, both the leaders Mayawati as well as SP national president Mulayam Singh Yadav have announced that their parties would contest Lok Sabha polls outside UP also.
Samajwadi Party spokesman Rajendra Choudhry said that while making allegations against SP government, Mayawati forgot that more then half dozen legislators of her party were in jail for their involvement in various crimes and .scams.
Rajendra Choudhry said that over two dozen BSP ministers were indicted by Lok Ayukt in various corruption cases and CBI was probing the various scandals of Mayawati regime.
Senior SP leader and national spokesman Prof Ram Gopal Yadav said that people of state had punished BSP government in the elections as it knew as to who had links with mafia and goons and who were the ministers and legislators sent to jails on the charges of corruption. (IPA)
