MUMBAI/AHMEDABAD: Rolling out the first 2.5 Mw project under Gandhinagar Photovoltaic Rooftop Programme, Azure Power has forayed into rooftop solar power generation. A first of its kind in India, the project entails energy from aggregated rooftop portfolio being sold to one off-taker.
According to Inderpreet Wadhwa, CEO, Azure Power, the project is attractive for rooftop owners through a revenue sharing arrangement for a period of 25 years. “This way cities can become energy generators and power companies selling in cities can meet their renewable purchase obligations (RPOs). This initiative has the potential of tapping into 1,000 Mw of rooftop solar power across tier 1 and tier 2 cities in India,” he said.
Azure was selected for this project through a competitive bidding process conducted by GERMI and the projects will include a mix of government and private rooftops.
