The law and order situation of Uttar Pradesh has now become worrying even for the BJP high command, even though UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been claiming that everything is under control. With the anti-CAA/NRC protests, the situation has deteriorated at an alarming rate, with incidents of police violence reported across media outlets. Now even the Uttar Pradesh High Court has expressed an opinion contrary to CM Yogi’s position on the law and order condition of the state, especially by convicting BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar in a rape case in Unnao. Additionally, the UP High Court has given a notice to the DGP and Home Secretary of UP over a recent incident inside the district court of Bijnor, where a man was killed in a court of the chief judicial magistrate! The Judges of the UP High Court have commented that when the person was not safe inside the court then where one can only imagine the deplorable state of law and order in UP now. Not only the courts, but unprecedented scenes could be seen even in the UP assembly, where Nand Kishor Gurjar, a BJP MLA, created ruckus inside the house when he raised the issue of deteriorating law and order in the state, defying the Speaker in the UP Assembly, Hriday Narayan Dikshit, and parliamentary minister Suresh Khanna. More than hundred BJP MLAs were supporting Nand Kishor Gurjar, to the Speaker’s dismay. Meanwhile SP, BSP and Congress MLAs were also supporting Nand Kishor Gurjar and MLAs gave the slogan “MLA Ekta Zindabad”. Gurjar’s defiance can be seen as a telltale sign of a stirring within the state unit of the BJP, who are worried about the utter lawlessness, rising police violence and increasing corruption in the Yogi government.
