At the meeting of opposition leaders, Sonia Gandhi suggested that the ultimate goal of the opposition parties be the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and that national duty must take precedence over party considerations.
She suggested that preparations for this must start immediately and the opposition parties must come together to launch united agitations against the anti-people policies of the Modi government.
The meeting is still progressing in Delhi. Among those attending the meeting are West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar.
BSP chief Mayawati stayed away from the meeting. Aam Admi Party was not invited to the meeting.
