Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit has acknowledged his defeat in the New Delhi constituency as vote counting for the Delhi Assembly elections progresses. Emerging trends indicate the Bharatiya Janata Party is poised to form the next government in the capital.
Speaking to reporters, Dikshit, son of the late former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, accepted the electorate’s decision, stating, “I accept the mandate of the people.” He further noted that current trends suggest the BJP is on track to establish its government in Delhi.
The Election Commission of India had scheduled the Delhi Assembly elections for February 5, with results being declared on February 8. The Aam Aadmi Party , led by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, was seeking a third consecutive term but faced significant challenges from both the BJP and Congress.
In the New Delhi constituency, Dikshit was up against BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh and AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal. As counting continues, early indications show the BJP gaining a substantial lead, suggesting a shift in the city’s political landscape.
