The Punjab Cabinet has approved the disbursement of ₹14,000 crore in pending arrears to government employees and pensioners. This decision, taken during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, aims to provide financial relief to approximately three lakh employees and an equal number of pensioners.
A government spokesperson detailed that the arrears cover revised pay, pensions, and leave encashment from January 1, 2016, to June 30, 2022. Additionally, dearness allowance arrears from July 1, 2021, to March 31, 2024, will be released. The disbursement will occur in stages, offering much-needed financial support to the beneficiaries.
In a related development, the Cabinet has approved the creation of new positions within the Punjab State Legal Services Authority to establish 22 new Lok Adalats. This initiative aims to enhance the delivery of justice across the state.
The Cabinet has sanctioned the creation of 476 new posts in the taxation department to curb tax evasion and optimize human resources. The designation of inspectors in the department will be updated to State Taxation Officers to reflect their roles more accurately.
The Cabinet has also approved the revival of 822 Group C posts in the health and family welfare department, along with the creation of 97 positions in the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences in SAS Nagar. These measures are expected to bolster healthcare services in the region.
