Those days are long when a leader rarely ever left his own party to join hands with the ruling party. However, now, it has become a symbol for success for politicians to change their stripes and join hands with ruling dispensation, or at least make bridges with them. No wonder then that this trend is rather fashionable in Uttar Pradesh, a state where the ruling BJP is up to all sort of theatrics.Recently, a special session of the Vidhan Sabha was called on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary. While the opposition parties decided to boycott the session, not everyone of their MLAs obliged and kept to party diktats. For example, Aslam Raini, a BSP MLA, ignored the party direction and not only did he attend the house but also praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at length, much to consternation of the BSP leadership. Secondly, Aditi Singh, a first time Congress MLA,too participated in the session despite the Congress party boycotting it. Aditi Singh is the MLA from Rae Bareli and the daughter of Akhilesh Singh, a former Congress MLA from Rae Bareli. Aditi Singh is the youngest MLA in the House. In May, Aditi Singh was attacked by some miscreants in Rae Bareli and she demanded security cover from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, request which was ignored. However, on Thursday, Aditi Singh ignored the visit of Priyanka Gandhi at Rae Bareli and instead cent to attend the house celebrations, where she conspicuously appreciated the chief minister in the house. The very same day she got the Y-plus security. In the same way, when Shivpal Yadav entered the house, BJP MLAs loudly welcomed him in the Assembly.
ADITYA THACKERAY FILES NOMINATION, TIPPED TO BE SENA’S CM CANDIDATE
On Thursday, Aaditya Thackeray filed his nomination from World constituency for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. Almost all the senior leaders of Shiv Sena were present at the time of Thackerary submitting the nomination paper. Aaditya Thackeray is the first person from the Thackeray family who has filled the nomination paper. He has declared his assets worth of 16 crores, with a BMW car. Aaditya Thackeray has declared his occupation as “business” and his total income as per last income tax return is Rs26.3 lakh. His father Uddhav Thackeray, chief of Shiv Sena, has already declared that if the alliance with BJP wins the majority, Aaditya would be fronted as the chief ministerial candidate from Shiv Sena. While his grandfather always stopped their family members for participating in the election as candidate, but Uddhav Thackeray declared last week that his father wanted to see a Shiv Sanik as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
CBI CASE: HARISH RAWAT PINS HOPE ON PUBLIC SYMPATHY
Despite the Uttarakhand High Court decision to give permission to CBI for lodging a FIR against Harish Rawat on the sting operation showing the purchasing of MLAs by the former CM,currently, the BJP in Uttarakhand seems uncomfortable with this issue. The ruling party is denying that BJP has any role in this issue. The State party president Ajay Bhatt has given a statement that BJP has no role in lodging any case against Harish Rawat. In the beginning, Harish Rawat was trying to save himself from this allegation, but now he wants to go to jail to get the sympathy from the people of Uttarakhand. The Congress leaders who are in opposition are now supporting Harish Rawat on this issue. State Congress President Pritam Singh and Leader of Opposition in the assembly Indira Hridayesh have claimed that BJP is trying to involve Harish Rawat in the case. BJP leaders of Uttarakhand are now trying to save their faces as Harish Rawat has been getting the sympathy day by day.
WILL HE OR WON’T HE:NO CAMPAIGN BY SIDHU IN HARYANA?
In the Lok Sabha election, one of the star campaigners of the Congress was cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu. State units of the party were eager to get the witty Punjab politician on the campaign trail. Things have changed now. His name does not figure in the list of star campaigners for the neighbouring Haryana. Although the name of former Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar, who has raised banner of revolt against the party, is in the list which the Congress submitted to the Election Commission. Since Sidhu is still popular in Haryana, and Ashok Tanwar resigned past Saturday from the Congress party, Haryana might see some change in the list of campaigners.
BJP FIELDS BRAHMIN NAMES FOR RAJYA SABHA IN UP, BIHAR
With Bihar politics heavily influenced by backward castes, a section of the state BJP unit is very keen on expanding its clout by sending an OBC/Dalit to the upper house. The current BJP MPs from Bihar in Rajya Sabha —Gopal Singh Narayan, R K Sinha and CP Thakur — all from upper caste communities. However, on Thursday when the party announced nominees for the by-election for which the party has managed to make its ally JD(U) agree to support its candidate, those hopes were shattered. The BJP nominated Satish Dubey. In Uttar Pradesh, too, the BJP nominated another Brahmin leader, Sudhanshu Trivedi, for the seat vacated by the demise of the late Arun Jaitley.(IPA Service)
