Opposition has demanded from the central government as well as the state governments to look into the problems to migrant labourers stranded in various parts of country.
AICC general secretary and in charge of UP, Priyanka Gandhi, in a video appeal to the central government and the Yogi government in the state, asked them to make arrangements for migrant labourers stranded in Surat, Mumbai, Delhi and other parts of India so that they can reach their villages/homes in UP.
Complimenting the Yogi government for bringing students back from Kota where they had gone to attended coaching classes, Priyanka Gandhi said that similar arrangements should be made for migrant labourers who have neither roof overhead nor adequate food supplies to survive the extended lockdown.
Congress leaders have been very critical of the raid by district officials at the Amethi office of the Congress party where relief materials sent by its former MP, Rahul Gandhi, were kept.
The attempt by local administration to raid Congress office during a pandemic is being termed by Congress members as conspiracy to stop distribution of relief material sent by Rahul Gandhi.
Angry Congress workers charged local MP Smriti Irani and her supporters for sabotaging distribution of relief materials sent by Rahul Gandhi.
Similarly, former chief minister and national President of Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, has repeatedly said that more attempts should be made to arrange relief for lakhs of migrant workers from UP.
Akhilesh Yadav said busses should be made available to migrant workers stranded in various parts of country to bring back UP.
Akhilesh Yadav said quarantine centres in Agra and other places were overburdened with no proper food; so government should make proper arrangements for migratory labourers who were being treated like criminals.
Akhilesh Yadav also expressed his anger at the way his party leaders and workers were stopped from distribution of relief materials to needy persons. He said that in various places reports were lodged against his party workers.
Opposition leaders also demanded that those migrant labourers who have returned to their home should be given work by the local administration, for which Yogi government should formulate scheme at the earliest. (IPA Service)
