NEW DELHI: NTPC has successfully completed the automation package for the Simhadri Stage-II 2 X 500 MW super thermal power project located near Visakhapatnam. It is NTPC’s first coastal-based coal-fired thermal power project.
An official statement said the plant’s output was expected to reduce the power deficit significantly in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka as well as in the Union Territory of Puducherry. When completed, the project will be one of the most modern power plants in India with state-of-the-art control and instrumentation systems. Emerson is the station control and instrumentation (C&I) systems contractor for this plant. Emerson’s technologies will play an important role in the operation of a power plant by helping it achieve maximum availability, reliability and flexibility.
As part of the automation package, Emerson installed more than 50 Ovation controllers and multiple workstations across various power plant areas. The system’s ability to control operations more tightly is key to achieving and maintaining super thermal unit efficiency. The company has also installed the Distributed Digital Control and Management Information System (DDCMIS) for the power plant.
