A minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government in Madhya Pradesh has backed cow rearing act (gaupalan kanun), saying those public representatives aspiring for polls should compulsorily rear cows. Raising this demand, Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Environment Hardeep Singh Dang has said that he would write to Election Commission of India.
Dang, a politician from Mandsaur, told News18 that those engaged in trades connected to farming should necessarily rear cows. Those not having any cows in custody should not be allowed to contest polls.
He went on to say that the government staffer drawing a salary of over Rs 25,000 a month should also be made to pay Rs 500 monthly for the welfare of the cows.
Urging his own government to formulate a law in this regard, Dang claimed he would write to election commission of India in this regard. However, he said that he was making these remarks in personal capacity.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party state head VD Sharma sided with Dang’s demand saying people should rear cows in as many numbers possible. Each and every person should rear cows, making individuals and the nation healthy, he said.
Commenting on his own Mahakal trip in Ujjain, Sharma said that it was an only a usual organisational trip. He also applauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has asked his ministers to tour their areas.
He slammed the opposition Congress saying the party sees mistake in everything and needs to introspect. On the Jobat assembly bypolls, Sharma said the BJP is going into by polls with a strong organisational set up.
Reacting to the demands raised by Dang, senior Congress MLA and former minister PC Sharma said the previous Kamal Nath government had announced the development of 1,000 smart Gaushalas (cowsheds) in Madhya Pradesh.
“Had these cowsheds been developed, Dang would not have to worry for the cow protection,” he said.
Sharma said developing these cowsheds would also have eliminated the problem of stray cattle.
“I hope Dang will ensure the development of these 1,000 cowsheds as decided by the then Congress government,” he added.
Even as the BJP is jostling it out on the OBC quota issue, one of the party MLAs, Narayan Tripathi, has reminded CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan about his announcement for formation of Upper Class Commission which he made in Rewa early this year.
Greeting the party top leadership on efforts on OBC quota issue, Tripathi said no concrete action on this proposed commission has made the upper classes disappointed. I hope this Sawarn Ayog will be formed shortly, said the Maihar MLA in a letter written to the Chief Minister on August 12.
