Will Prime Minister Narendra Modi be choosing another temple town to contest in this Lok Sabha elections? If believed to BJP MLA from Odisha’s Padampur assembly constituency, Pradip Purohit, the answer is Yes. He may lure voters in Puri instead of Varanasi, the constituency from which he contested in 2014.
Purohit said, “There is 90 percent possibility of Prime Minister Narendra Modi contesting from Puri Seat.”
The MLA added that in last Lok Sabha elections the prime minister took the blessings of Lord Jagannath and he won the seat from Varanasi. The people of Odisha wants Modi to contest from Puri in this Lok Sabha elections. BJP leaders and probably Narendra Modi wish to contest from Puri.
Odisha BJP president Basant Panda earlier too said the state unit has proposed to field Modi from Puri.
In a recent interview to ANI the PM was asked whether he has plan to contest the elections from Puri. He said, “Media persons also should get some work.”
It is believed Modi’s candidature from Odisha will brighten the party’s chances in the state, which is currently ruled by Naveen Patnaik-led BJD.
BJD has strong hold in Puri and has won the seat in 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014. In 2014 BJD’s Pinaki Mishra won the seat grabbing 50.33 percent votes.
BJP is planning to win more seats in Odisha, West Bengal and North-east states, all non-Hindi speaking states.
