Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
is going to retire from Rajya Sabha on June 14 this year and at the same time
another Congress Rajya Sabha MP Santiuse Kujur is going to retire also from
Rajya Sabha. They both were elected from Assam and with the BJP winning in
Assam, the Congress does not have enough MLAs to get either of them re-elected.
According to Senior Congress leaders, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will
continue to be a Member of Parliament but there is no vacancy for the upper
house barring in Tamil Nadu this year.
So the speculation is that Manmohan Singh will contest the coming Lok
Sabha polls from Punjab and possibly from Amritsar constituency. Former PM can
win from any seat of his state.
ELECTION
COMMISSION TO ANNOUNCE LOK SABHA POLL DATES SOON
With the Pulwama terror attack and
tension between India and Pakistan peaking, the Lok Sabha polls were hardly in
the public mind. But as February ends, the Election Commission is back with
full action. The dates of the Lok Sabha polls are likely to be announced by the
EC in second week of March. The PM is scheduled to inaugurate the Hindon UDAN
airport, a subsided air travel project to service smaller centres like
Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, Gorakhpur in UP and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. The
election calendar is expected soon thereafter. Once the polls are announced,
the model code of conduct will put an end to such government announcements.
KARAN
SINGH’S SON VIKRAMADITYA MAY GET CONGRESS NOMINATION
The Congress Party may give Lok Sabha ticket
to Vikramaditya Singh, son of senior Congress leader Dr Karan Singh, from
Udhampur constituency. Former Congress MP Madan Lal Sharma may get the ticket
from Jammu constituency and Tsering Samphel will get the Lok Sabha ticket from Ladakh
Lok Sabha Constituency. Rest three seats of Jammu & Kashmir are to be
decided after discussion with the allies.
The election commission is assessing the situation in J&K now.
APNA
DAL MIGHT ALLY WITH THE CONGRESS IN UTTAR PRADESH
After the deadline given by Apna Dal
(Sonelal) to BJP, the Union state Health Minister Anupriya Patel and Party
working President Ashish Patel met the Congress General Secretary in-charge for
the western Uttar Pradesh Jyotiraditya Scindia and discussed about the alliance
in the coming Lok Sabha election. According to Anupriya Patel, the party faced
some problem with BJP and they have put it before the top leadership of BJP and
gave them time till February 20 but they did not care about the grievances and showed
no interest to resolve them. Hence the Apna Dal (S) is now free to choose its
own path. According to Ashish Patel, a meeting of party leaders has been called
and final decision will be taken in that meeting. The Apna Dal (S) has two MPs
and 8 MLAs in Uttar Pradesh at present. The rumours in Lucknow that Anupriya
Patel has met Priyanka Gandhi and has reached understand on alliance in UP.
PRAKASH
AMBEDKAR WANTS ALLIANCE WITH CONGRESS IN MAHARASHTRA
Dalit Leader Prakash Ambedkar has
announced that he is open for an alliance with Congress to defeat the BJP-Shiv
Sena alliance. Although the Congress is practising soft Hindutva currently
which he has been opposing, he wants the Congress to revert back to their
secular Ideology. Ambedkar is being wooed by the Congress-NCP alliance and his
party has been offered 4 seats but e has been demanding 12 seats which the
alliance is unlikely to accept. Congress president Rahul Gandhi during his next
visit to Mumbai, will be finalizing the details of the Congress led alliance in
Maharashtra.
CONGRESS
INFIGHTING IS AT ITS PEAK IN UTTARKHAND OVER CANDIDATES
The infighting in Uttarakhand Congress
for the distribution of tickets in the coming Lok Sabha election has now
reached its peak. In the last Lok Sabha election, all the five seats were won
by the BJP. This time there are many aspirants in Congress for these five
seats. The infighting is so much that
General Secretary and hormer Chief Minister Harish Rawat did not find the place
in the list sent by the block and district level of Congress. Although there
are many names for the seats. Harish Rawat wants to fight either from Nanital
or Haridwar. He has won the Lok Sabha seat from Haridwar in 2009 but his name
is absent from the list which has been
sent by the Haridwar District Congress Committee and at the same time
Nanital District committee has sent the name of Indira Hridayesh, KC Singh and
Mahendra Pal and the name of Harish Rawat
has not been included.. After seeing this Harish Rawat now wants a
ticket from Pouri Garhwal from where BJP wants to give the ticket either to the
son of Ajit Doval or Col Kothiyal. (IPA)
