NEW DELHI: With the commissioning of a 660-MW unit of a power plant in Jhajjar, Haryana, India’s installed capacity has crossed the 2-lakh-MW mark, according to the Power Ministry.
The first unit of the project of CLP India — Mahatma Gandhi Thermal Power Project, Jhajjar — was recently fully commissioned.
With this, the total installed capacity has reached 2,00,287 MW, an official release said. The installed capacity includes 1,32,013 MW in the thermal sector, 38,991 MW in hydro, 4,780 MW in nuclear and 24,503 MW in renewable energy.
At the end of the 11 {+t} {+h} Plan (March 31), the total installed capacity stood at 1,99,627 MW. An official release said there was unprecedented growth in capacity during the Plan period with the addition of 54,964 MW of new capacity, showing a growth of 159 per cent over the 10 {+t} {+h} Plan period when 21,180 MW was added.
In 2011-12, a total of 20,501 MW capacity was added, out of which 5,482 MW was added in March alone.
