A Rajasthan government employee, identified as Shakur Khan Mangaliya, was detained on Wednesday in Jaisalmer for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence . Khan, who serves as a clerk in the state’s employment office, was apprehended by a joint team from the Rajasthan CID and intelligence units from Jaipur. Authorities have been monitoring his activities amid a broader national crackdown on espionage networks following Operation Sindoor.
According to officials, Khan had previously served as a personal assistant to Shale Mohammad, a former minister in the Congress government. Both individuals hail from the same village in Jaisalmer district. The arrest has raised concerns about potential infiltration of sensitive government positions by foreign intelligence operatives.
Investigations revealed that Khan had traveled to Pakistan multiple times without official approval, violating service protocols. His mobile phone contained several Pakistani contacts, which he failed to explain satisfactorily during initial questioning. Authorities are also examining his financial records, including two bank accounts, to ascertain any links to foreign intelligence agencies.
During Operation Sindoor, Khan was on duty in the district administration control room. Officials suspect that he may have had access to sensitive information during this period. No military-related videos or sensitive content have been found on his mobile phone so far; however, many posts on the device were found deleted.
Superintendent of Police Sudhir Chaudhary confirmed the detention, stating, “Based on inputs from higher headquarters about his involvement in suspicious activities, we have detained him for verification and questioning.” Khan is expected to be taken to the Central Investigation Centre in Jaipur for further interrogation.
