Vijai Sardesai’s Goa forward swept the Margao municipal council by winning five out of eight seats while the BJP won the three remaining seats. Six BJP-backed candidates registered victory from ward 1 to 6 in Mormugao.
Voting for five municipal councils in Goa is underway on Monday with 402 candidates in the fray. The State Election Commission is holding the elections for Mapusa, Margao, Mormugao, Sanguem and Quepem municipal councils. A total of 1,85,225 voters were eligible to cast their votes.

Goa BJP chief Sadanand Shet Tanavade congratulated party workers of two municipalies — Sanguem and Quepem — for party’s victory. “Congratulations to Team #Sanguem & #Quepem on their impressive victory! The results show peoples re-endorsement of leadership and trust in @BJP4Goa. My best wishes to the newly elected councillors in their new responsibilities and the challenges of the ward they are elected,” he said.
Due to covid-19 pandemic, election authorities had directed political leaders to not assemble outside the counting venues.
