Congress General Secretary and in-charge of the party’s Uttar Pradesh unit, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is working hard to mobilise farmers against farm laws and she has been visiting the state frequently to show solidarity with the farmers’ movement. Priyanka attended Kisan panchayat in Mathura, UP on 23rd February 2021 in a bid to reach out to the people over the three contentious farm bills. Voices were heard in these Panchayat rallies from the public that Priyanka Gandhi should lead from the front and the party should project her as CM candidate in the Assembly elections of UP in 2022. According to political observers if Congress projects Priyanka Gandhi as CM candidate in the assembly election of 2022, it may benefit the Congress and party can get 40 to 70 seats and play a crucial role in forming the govt. While senior UP Congress leaders are of the view that if Priyanka is projected as CM candidate it will consolidate it’s vote bank of Brahmin, Muslims, Dalits and Jats who are now unhappy with the BJP govt in the state, Priyanka Gandhi side-stepped a question on whether she was ready to be the Congress’s Chief Ministerial candidate in the Uttar Pradesh polls next year. Priyanka said “My responsibility is to be with the people and raise their issues. It is my duty to raise my voice for people. I will not stand back, I will keep fighting. And I will never betray the people.” Whether Priyanka Gandhi will be the CM face or she may only campaign in UP and lead the party, the final decision will be taken by the Congress high command. Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday presided over UP manifesto committee along with the outreach committee to prepare Jan Ghoshna Patra for the preparation of coming assembly election of UP in 2022.
