New Delhi: Chandan Mitra, editor-politician who had been ailing for some time, passed away late last night, tweeted his son. He was 65.

A former Rajya Sabha MP, Chandan Mitra resigned as printer and publisher of The Pioneer – an English daily – in June this year.

Ram Madhav, a senior member of the BJP’s ideological parent Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, remembered the late leader as a good friend and offered condolences to his family.

Chandan Mitra had quit the BJP in 2018 and found his out with the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool, a party he had once blamed for letting loose a “reign of terror” in Bengal. He told NDTV at the time that he made the choice to work for the “betterment” of the state.
