After losing its three-day government and with the formation of Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government in Maharashtra, the infighting within the state unit of the BJP is at its peak. Eknath Khadse has become the leader of the BJP rebels and has blamed the party for not supporting the backwards. Pankaja Munde, the daughter of Gopinath Munde, is also with Eknath Khadse. According to her, former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis denied tickets to leaders like Vinod Tawde and Eknath Khadse. Now Khadse is blaming the decision of sudden government formation by Devendra Fadnavis with the support of Ajit Pawar was not correct. Khadse underlined the fact that during election time, the same Fadnavis was blaming Ajit Pawar for the massive irrigation scam and had gone on to declare that if BJP came, to power Ajit Pawar would be sent to jail. Khadse stressed Fadnavis’s behaviour post-election and during the three-day tenure giving Ajit Pawar a clean chit by the anti corruption bureau of the state was wrong.
FORMER PM IK GUJRAL REMEMBERED ON HIS 100TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY
December 4 was the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral, nearly eight years after his death. Gujral is fondly remembered as a small and slender man with large spectacles and a warm gracious manner. Though his tenure was one of the shortest durations, as a prime minister he was one of the nicest persons. His son, the Akali Dal MP Naresh Gujral, requested Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla to organise a function in Parliament to mark the birth anniversary of his late father. Gujral also asked that a postal stamp be issued and the central government sponsor newspaper advertisement to commemorate the centenary year. While Naresh Gujral received no positive response from the Modi government, but non NDA state governments of Punjab, Delhi and Maharashtra had put out ads to honour and remember Inder Kumar Gujral.
YOGI FIDDLES AS UTTAR PRADESH GASPS FOR LAW AND ORDER
In 2017, BJP won in Uttar Pradesh with a large margin and Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister. The mood has shifted greatly two and half years later, as the people don’t think that the Yogi government is working on anything, except the usual laudatory statements by the array of incompetent ministers. The law and order situation of the state is getting worse day by day. Especially, following the burning to death of the Unnao rape victim by the accused who were out on bail, there are misgivings in the air of UP. This was exacerbated after Raghavendra Pratap Singh, a cabinet minister in Yogi government, added fuel to fire by giving the unacceptable statement saying that even Lord Ram couldn’t guarantee to a 100% crime free society. Economic woes too batter the state as the sugarcane farmers are not getting their dues from mills. There is no chief secretary in the state since last three months. Many senior posts are lying vacant but unfortunately the chief minister has no time for these urgent issues. He is busy in politics and appointing people of his caste at influential positions.
CONGRESS TO HIGHLIGHT ECONOMY WOES AT ‘BHARAT BACHAO’ RALLY
Eager to reinforce the view that economic slowdown, flawed GST, other missteps of Modi government like demonetisation and four-decade-high unemployment have become political rallying points, Congress is staking everything on the public gathering to be held on Saturday 14th December. Around 100 people from every assembly are expected to reach Delhi for the mega Bharat Bachao rally in Ramlila Maidan, and will be led by Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Congress managers believe that a successful show would further deepen the impression of economic gloom which is likely to hog the headlines in future. (IPA)
