Hemant Soren on Monday moved to the Supreme Court challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case. Advocate Kapil Sibal appearing for Soren mentioned the appeal in front of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud citing urgency in view of Lok Sabha elections.
“Please allow Hemant Soren to campaign ahead of the May 13 polls in Jharkhand. His rights are being trampled upon in this fashion,” Sibal argued before the court.
Jharkhand High Court had, on May 3, turned down the plea by the former chief minister challenging his arrest.
