Maharashtra’s Environment and Climate Change Minister, Pankaja Munde, has dismissed speculations about her establishing a new political party, clarifying that her statements were misinterpreted.
During a public event in Nashik on Sunday, Munde remarked that the number of followers of her late father, Gopinath Munde, was so vast that they could form a political party. This comment led to widespread conjecture about her intentions within the political sphere.
In response to the ensuing discussions, Munde clarified on Monday that her remarks were taken out of context. She explained that a preceding speaker at the event had highlighted Gopinath Munde’s immense popularity, suggesting that his admirers were numerous enough to establish a separate party. Munde responded by affirming that such a party already exists, referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party , to which her father dedicated his political career.
She emphasized that her leadership recognition stems not merely from being Gopinath Munde’s daughter but from embodying and upholding his values and principles. Munde stated, “I have cherished his values, and that is the reason people have accepted me as their leader.”
The speculation regarding Munde’s potential departure from the BJP is rooted in her reported dissatisfaction within the party over the past five years, a period during which she was perceived to be sidelined before her induction into the state cabinet in December last year.
