THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Left Democratic Front (LDF)-backed Independent MLA P V Anvar seems to have lost his balance and sense of proportion.
That is the unmistakable conclusion that can be drawn from the press conference Anvar addressed at Nilambur, the constituency he represents in the Kerala Assembly, the other day. The press conference saw Anvar making all sorts of wild allegations against the Chief Minister and the CPI(M).
Anvar’s sense of timing has also badly let him down. The Chief Minister has already conceded some of his demands. For instance, the Nilambur MLA had made serious allegations against senior Malappuram police officer Sujit Das. He has been placed under suspension. Another senior police officer, Malappuram SP Sashidharan, against him Anvar had raised a slew of allegations, has been transferred out of the district.
And, most importantly, The Chief Minister has ordered an investigation headed by Police(DGP) Dervesh Sahib into the allegations against Additional Director General of Police(ADGP), law and order, M R Ajit Kumar, too.
Ajit Kumar had been asked to probe allegations that the world famous Thrissur pooram festival had been disrupted to ensure the success of BJP candidate from Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency. That report has turned out to be a wishy washy one. It tried to blame it all on local police officers including Thrissur district police chief Angit Ashokan, giving a clean chit to Ajit Kumar himself! The accusations made by LDF leaders, including VS Sunil Kumar, who lost the Thrissur election, was that Ajit Kumar had a big role in the pooram disruption conspiracy.
The DGP who was not happy about the report, forwarded it to the Home Secretary with a covering letter detailing his reservations. The CM who received the report from the Home secretary then ordered another probe headed, again, by the DGP.
This, again met Anvar’s demand. The report of the earlier inquiry against the ADGP is set to see the light of the day on October 2. Heavens would not have come crashing down if he had waited till then. But Anvar would not do that. He was in a tearing hurry to conclude that the probe would be a sham. That was a serious mistake. It created doubts about his motive behind his repeated fulminations.
It must be mentioned that the Chief Minister had denied deputing Ajit Kumar to meet RSS leaders Dattatreya Hosabale and Ram Madhav. Then, why did the ADGP meet the RSS leaders? And at whose behest? He has to answer these vital questions. Latest reports have it that the DGP has summoned ADGP M R Ajit Kumar to the Police Headquarters to record his statement on his meeting with the RSS leaders. It is the second time that Ajit Kumar’s statement is being recorded on the issue. The DGP seems keen to close the probe at the earliest and submit his report to the CM.
Meanwhile, Anvar has signalled his intent to move the Kerala High Court in the sensitive matter. He has sought an HC-sponsored probe by a team appointed by the Court itself. He has also denied that he would not leave the LDF parliamentary party. All that he has said is that he would not attend the parliamentary party meetings. He would, however, attend the assembly session to be held in the first week of October!
The Chief Minister has, in the meantime, said that Anvar’s was a clear attempt to discredit the LDF Government. The CM also rejected all the allegations made by Anvar. He and CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan would make a detailed statement later.
One thing has become crystal clear. Anvar’s continuance in the LDF has now become untenable. Indications are that Anvar would soon be expelled from the LDF. Anvar himself has given the LDF a chance to act against him by persisting in his wrong ways despite requests from CPI(M) leaders including the Chief Minister. (IPA Service)
