In yet another serious setback to the Modi government and the State Bank of India, the Supreme Court has thrown out the plea by the SBI to grant an extension of the deadline set by the court to publish details of the electoral bond donors and the recipients from the original March 6 to June 30.
The bench headed by chief justice D Y Chandrachud outrightly rejected the request, saying SBI was obliged to follow the earlier order of the Supreme Court to submit the details by the timeframe set by the court.
The SBI has pleaded that it has to compile and decode information relating to the sale of twenty-two thousand two hundred and seventeen (22,217) electoral bonds, which was not possible within the stipulated time.
The court, however, rejected all these claims and ordered the bank to disclose the details immediately.
