Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram’s candid remarks questioning the cohesion of the opposition’s INDIA bloc have sparked a political storm, with the Bharatiya Janata Party swiftly capitalising on the perceived discord to challenge the alliance’s credibility.
At a public event on May 16, Chidambaram expressed uncertainty about the alliance’s stability, stating he was “not sure” if the bloc remained intact and describing it as “frayed.” He acknowledged the formidable strength of the BJP, highlighting its influence from the Election Commission down to local police stations.
