LUCKNOW: The manner in which the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party national President Akhilesh Yadav were detained by the police for their protest in support of the ongoing students agitation has boosted the morale of leaders and workers of their parties in Uttar Pradesh before crucial state Assembly elections scheduled early next year.
The leaders and workers of both the parties were so agitated they came out on the streets and staged demonstration and courted arrest. The detention of Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav conveyed the message in the state that they were united on the issue of student movement and other related issues to dislodge BJP from power.
The outreach of Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh to students all over the state will change the political climate in the state. UP witnessed large scale demonstration from leaders and workers from both the parties after a long time. The planning of future struggle of Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav will also attract smaller parties and groups which were hesitating to join them so far.
The manner in which Akhilesh and Dimple Yadav joined the struggle of students and entire Gandhi family Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka came out in open to be with the students sent a unique message of solidarity.
The joint participation of Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav in the students struggle will also strengthen INDIA block in UP. Now it will be very easy for Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav to sit with other leaders to discuss the complex issue of seat sharing.
It would be worth mentioning here that ever since AICC UP Incharge Arivind Pande was replaced by Rajendra Pal Gautam MLA president All India SC and ST wing of the party ,the issue of seat sharing became a very hot topic.
Soon after taking over as UP incharge Rajendra Pal Gautam made it clear that seat sharing with Samajwadi Party will be on equal basis and honourable terms. His sentiments were supported by UPCC president Ajai Rai who also said that although the final decision on seat sharing will be taken by the central leadership but he also wanted Congress be treated on equal term during the discussion.
It may be mentioned that with the replacement of Avinash Pande with Rajendra Pal Gautam Rahul Gandhi sent message for a dalit outreach for the party with decline in vote share of BSP. There is a broad consensus that BSP was functioning as B team of BJP. There is a fight between SP and Congress to win over influential dalit voters in UP.
